Bahari Beach Hotel is located along the palm-fringed Nyali Beach in Mombasa. The Hotel is also near Haller Park. Haller Park was formed by successfully transforming a quarry wasteland into an ecological area. The Park was the first recipient of the United Nations Environmental Programme Global 500 Roll of Honour Award for the unique, ecologically sound and successful rehabilitation undertaken. Presently, the park is home to a variety of wildlife, including hippos, giraffes, antelopes, and a plethora of smaller mammals, birds, and insects

Our Environmental Conservation Efforts

Bahari Beach Hotel regularly organizes beach cleanups, encouraging staff and guests to join in removing waste and maintaining a beautiful and healthy environment for everyone to enjoy.

Additionally, Bahari Beach Hotel assists KWS rangers by supplying on-site meals, water, and restrooms. To promote a thriving ecosystem, the resort actively plants native palm trees, enhancing the beachfront property's natural beauty and providing essential habitat for local wildlife.

Waste Management Practices

We are dedicated to reducing single-use plastics. To help minimize plastic waste, we provide refillable glass bottles. We also encourage the reuse of certain plastic waste for decorative purposes. At Bahari Beach Hotel, we have designated bins for waste segregation. This system enables the responsible recycling and disposal of different waste categories.

Once segregated, the waste is collected by a licensed waste handler, ensuring that it is processed and disposed of according to the highest environmental standards. To further reduce waste from disposable toiletries, we offer shower gel in large dispensers and prioritize the use of biodegradable cleaning products throughout the hotel.

Sustainable Water Management Practices

At Bahari Beach Hotel, we utilize a borehole for our water needs, reducing reliance on county supplies. The extracted water undergoes rigorous treatment with reverse osmosis to ensure its purity. Treated water is stored in both underground and overhead tanks, ensuring a consistent supply. We also utilize low-flow showerheads and faucets to minimize water usage.

Greywater from laundry and the pool is treated through soak pits, while black and grey water from guest rooms undergo septic tank treatment before reaching soak pits. Bio-digesters further enhance this process for responsible water recycling, which is used on the lawns. Regular effluent sampling and testing ensure we meet all environmental regulations. We hold a valid Effluent Discharge License, demonstrating our commitment to responsible water management.

Sustainable Energy Practices at Bahari Beach Hotel

At Bahari Beach Hotel, we utilize solar panels to generate electricity, reducing our reliance on the national grid and promoting clean energy sources. Energy extracted from the Solar Panels also heats water for guest rooms and laundry, reducing our dependence on conventional energy sources. Our backup generator is a fuel-efficient 350 kVA model, used only when necessary.

Additionally, we have installed energy-saving bulbs and LED lights throughout the hotel to minimize electricity consumption. We maintain documented records on energy usage, allowing us to monitor our progress and identify opportunities for further efficiency.

Commitment to Staff and Community

Bahari Beach Hotel offers competitive compensation packages, which include salaries, annual performance-based bonuses, profit-sharing through tips, and medical expense coverage at a designated hospital. Employees benefit from generous paid leave, with a total of 26 days of annual leave, 3 months of maternity leave, and 14 days of paternity leave. Additionally, travel allowances are provided to meet staff needs. The hotel is committed to staff development, offering in-house training during the low season, annual refresher training at Utalii College, and sessions with product suppliers.

Effective communication is maintained through notice boards, while a disciplinary committee ensures fair treatment of all employees. Free counseling services are also available to support staff wellness. Bahari Beach Hotel is dedicated to local employment, with 80% of its workforce coming from Mombasa. The hotel also provides opportunities for casual workers and actively supports local artisans and beach vendors by giving them a platform to sell their products directly to guests. Internship opportunities are offered to students from nearby institutions, providing them with valuable industry experience. Additionally, the hotel supports the Wema Centre, a children's home for orphaned girls, through donations, fundraising events, and potential employment for graduates.

Cultural integration enhances the guest experience at Bahari Beach Hotel. Traditional dances from various local tribes, including the Giriama, Maasai, Pokomo, and Taveta, are performed for guests, and local cuisine is showcased during the weekly "African Night." The hotel’s design elements and staff attire reflect Swahili culture, enriching its ambiance. Furthermore, the hotel supports the local community by providing free parking for local taxi drivers and daily water supplies to beach vendors, demonstrating a strong commitment to the well-being of the surrounding area.

Our Partners

Bahari Beach Hotel collaborates with the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) in several impactful ways to promote environmental conservation. The hotel actively participates in annual KWS cleanups, providing essential supplies and refreshments to volunteers, such as donating soda to students during a cleanup event in September 2019. Additionally, the hotel supports KWS rangers by offering meals, water, and restroom facilities, ensuring they have the necessary resources to carry out their vital conservation work.

This partnership also extends to habitat enhancement initiatives. Bahari Beach Hotel fosters a thriving local ecosystem by planting native palm trees throughout its property, which not only beautifies the grounds but also provides critical habitats for local wildlife. These efforts underscore the hotel’s commitment to environmental stewardship and its proactive role in supporting KWS's mission to protect and preserve Kenya's natural heritage.
